Take a hike!
No, really. Start the new year with a free guided hike Wednesday at one of Pennsylvania's 39 participating state parks.
For York County hikers, both Codorus and Gifford Pinchot state parks have scheduled family-friendly walks Jan. 1. The Gifford Pinchot hike (1.5 miles) starts at 1 p.m., and the Codorus hike (1.7 miles) starts at 2 p.m.
These hikes are part of Amercia's State Parks First Day Hikes initiative, which drew nearly 55,000 participants last year. These hikers collectively walked more than 133,000 miles in parks throughout all 50 states.
Why start the year with a hike? For one, spending as little as two hours per week outdoors can make you happier. Relaxing or exercising in nature can even make you mentally and physically healthier, according to some studies.
If that's not reason enough, a hike offers the perfect opportunity to bond with family or make new friends while Relaxing and Reconnecting with Nature. And you know how we feel about that.
